The time of year has arrived when fashionistas and bloggers descend upon NYC and come together to witness fashion’s most fabulous week of the year, New York Fashion Week. This was my first time attending in the fall and oh what an experience it was. From sitting front row at the I Love Pretty show to attending the marvelous Maybelline event and so forth, there were many fun activities to do in and around the shows, I felt like I never slowed down. I went with a few blogger friends who helped make the journey a little bit more exciting. You don’t need to know the right people or visit NYFW with friends to have an amazing time. I found some of the most thrilling moments when I was alone at the shows meeting new faces. I want to tell you about my personal experience from this trip in hopes that it will help you understand what you need to know when attending your first fashion week. From the shows to the shoots to the events, here is an amazing list of everything you need to know before you go…
I have said this before and I will say it again: the only way to get into the shows is by downloading this app to your smartphone. If you plan on going to NYFW, download it a few months before because it takes time for them to accept you into the app. Once you’re accepted, you can view the available events and click on the yellow arrows of the shows you want to attend. Normally, after doing this, you will receive responses or invites via your email and that will be your mobile ticket into the show. Once you arrive, if your ticket has a seat number or states “priority standing”, you can head directly to the front of the line where they will scan your ticket and point you to a line to get into the show.
DON’T BE AFRAID TO GO ALONE!!
I arrived a few days early before my blogger friends so I started by going to the shows alone. I loved it! I think it’s important to put yourself out there and not be afraid to go to shows by yourself. I met a few new bloggers that I probably wouldn’t have met going with friends. It was a learning experience and best of all, you have a much better chance of getting to sit closer to the runway when you’re flying solo. Take my word for it and try it just once. You will not be disappointed.
HOTEL COLLABORATIONS AREN’T THE EASIEST TO COME BY BUT THEY ARE DEFINITELY POSSIBLE!
I am going to be brutally honest with this one; it is extremely difficult to get hotel collabs during NYFW. This time around, I was lucky enough to get an amazing one but I put the work into it and it took me a long time to get a response. You have to think that there are many bloggers trying to do the very same thing as you and it solely depends if you want to work for it or not. Not to mention, the US Open was going on at this very same time so those odds can also be against you as well. I don’t want to sound discouraging at all because there are many people out there who do get collabs! I thought it was important to just give you a heads up as to not be disappointed if you don’t.

THE SHOWS
Taoray Wang Spring Summer 2020 Runway Show: Such a beautiful collection featuring tailored suits in mint greens, black lace, and oversized sleeves. I had blast watching this show, especially because the collection reminded me of the female spirit. I found out that it was inspired by Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, a French author who had a brazen spirit and embodied the fearless female attitude. This was definitely one of my favorite collections as it was exquisite in design and effortlessly chic.
2. EDGII Fall/Winter 2019 Collection- This collection was unique because it was colorful, out of the box, and reminded me The Powerpuff girls. Fun, energetic, and full of vibrant energy, these clothes should be worn on anyone who is free spirited, brave, and loves to express themselves in the most carefree way. This was a showcase of the true and independant spirit. Edgii girls are diverse, powerful, and strong; exactly what this collection embodies.
3. I Love Pretty Spring / Summer 2020 Runway Show: By far, my favorite show of the entire week. This collection made my imagination run wild. Remnants of the 80’s were all around as Billy Idol’s “Dancing with Myself” warmed up the crowd. There was latex, mesh, and translucent fabrics that strolled down the catwalk. One model came down with a mock-neck blouse with flouncy sleeves that had the words, “Don’t Look at Me Like That” over the chest of the blouse. It was a walk to remember. I loved all the pastel colors that were used and I thought pink was a perfect color especially because it was an early show and made it easy on the eyes.
