My Birthday Trip to Los Olivos!

I hate to admit that I’m another year older but this past weekend I celebrated a birthday and took a trip up to Los Olivos, California. Located in the Santa Ynez Valley, Los Olivos or “The Olive Trees” has a small population but rich in history. It’s about a 3 hour drive from Los Angeles up the 101 Freeway and is home to many wineries and cute little shops. I am more of a traveler when it comes to my birthday rather than staying home and having dinner with friends. California has many places to visit on the weekends and it’s been some time since I have visited the Central region. I went up with my close friends and stayed in the cutest AirBnB the town had to offer. It was literally walking distance from the downtown area and came equipped with an indoor fireplace, an air hockey table, pinball machines, and the most comfortable beds ever. To say we enjoyed ourselves would be an understatement. We visited a few local wineries including my personal favorite, Sunstone Winery, that is a favorite among the locals because of the beautiful setting. Here’s an insight into such a magical weekend that was one for the books!

Finding a place to stay in a small town like Los Olivos can be a bit challenging because you want to stay near the downtown area so you can walk everywhere. Luckily, we stumbled upon the cutest home to stay with the nicest hosts ever! Danielle and Trent opened their home to us and it was amazing! As you enter from the driveway (which there is ample space for more than one car) you arrive in a sunlit room that has a pull-out containing two beds. I call this “The Sunshine Room” because their is so much light that gets in, it was the perfect place to shoot! As you leave the room, you enter the kitchen, that comes equipped with a large fridge, microwave, and kitchen amenities. Next to the kitchen is the game room and my favorite room of the entire house. It had an air hockey table (how cool is that!), multiple pinball machines, and a PacMan video game player (for 2 people). Awesome! The living room comes equipped with an indoor fireplace, surround sound Sonos player, and is decorated with some old school lamps and leather couches. The upstairs has two very large bedrooms (both containing full size bathrooms) and the beds were extremely cozy! Down-comforters covered the bed which made it hard for us to get up in the mornings (LOL). All in all, I would love to stay there again and I definitely give it a 10/10 rating!

SUNSTONE WINERY

My actual birthday was this past Saturday (February 23) and we booked a private tasting in the cellar of Sunstone Winery and it perfect! The grounds of the winery are superb and they personalized our tasting for my birthday! I had been to this winery once before because I was interested in getting married on-site at their Villa that literally makes you feel like you are in Tuscany! Our tasting flight included some whites, reds, and roses and after it was over, we sat on the beautiful picnic tables outside and ate lunch. It was a picture perfect day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. It’s been so rainy here in California which made the rolling hills and vineyards incredibly green and verdant.

DOWNTOWN LOS OLIVOS

As you walk down Grand Ave, the main street in Los Olivos, you are surrounded by upscale shops, tasting rooms, and galleries. It is a quaint and lovely town, dating back to the 1800’s, centered with a flagpole, and surrounded by vineyards and incredible locals. One of the highlights of my evening strolls around the city, was coming to the Los Olivos General Store and The Figueroa Mountain Brewery Company (one of the best places to meet locals). The streets are alive with visitors and on the weekends, it fills up with people looking for a quick getaway (like myself). I would love to come back again and again and get lost among the beauty that Los Olivos has to offer.
