Star Gazing at The Griffith Observatory!
Have you seen the movie, “La La Land?” The motion picture hit of 2016 that captured the beauty of Los Angeles that featured Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. In one of the scenes you see their characters, Mia and Sebastian, roaming around the Griffith Observatory with the most beautiful view of the city (it was my favorite scene in the film). The Griffith Observatory, a majestic landmark of our vast metropolis, opened in 1935 and has stood tall over LA, hovering over us like a beautiful cloud. I’ll be honest, it’s one of the prettiest places to go on a date or just for an outing with your friends. Being the amateur astronomer that I am, (I took a class in Astronomy at USC), I love to go star gazing at the Griffith in the evenings from time to time; especially on nights with meteor showers. The famous structure also houses the Griffith planetarium, where you can see a show explaining all about the wonders of the universe and the stars in the night sky. So romantic! There are many exhibits on display inside the Observatory including The Hall of the Sky, The Cosmic Connection, and my personal favorite, The Foucault Pendulum (This pendulum was designed to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth). As you walk around the grounds of the art deco building, you have marvelous views of Downtown Los Angeles all the way to the Pacific Ocean. At night, when the sun is setting and the sky blankets us with darkness, you can see all the twinkling lights spread all across our urban landscape. No wonder they call us the city of angels :)
