The Bustle around Bangkok

Destination:Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is a city like no other. With a population of almost 8.3 million people, there’s no wonder it’s the top most visited international destination. There is so much to see and do in this city, it’s almost overwhelming. We checked into the Mandarin Oriental upon our arrival. Located right along the Chao Phraya River, this hotel is nothing less than extraordinary. Everyone knows you by your name and greets you with a smile. It’s the best customer service experience I have ever had.

Our first stop on the itinerary, The Grand Palace. At the heart of the government, this place is colorful and preserved. You can’t enter here without your shoulders covered and you must have most of your legs covered. Next up, Wat Arun. One of the most beautiful and oldest Buddhist Temples in Bangkok.

Wondertip: They are VERY strict on dress code here. Make sure to have your shoulders covered and a skirt or pants with you. The skirt length has to fall well below your knees.

A great event to attend in Thailand is Thai Boxing. An old tradition, this is a highlight activity in Bangkok. All of the matches are held at Rajadamnern Stadium which is a small cab fare, just outside the city. We were lucky enough to sit ringside and even meet the winner of the match that day. What a treat!

Wondertip: Check your hotel and see if they offer private transfer to the stadium. We paid a package fee that included transportation and seats for $133. Not too shabby.

Last but not least, we traveled an hour outside the city to the amazing, Floating Market. Bangkok has 5 floating markets in all but the main one lies outside the city. A place where I held a Slow Loris for my first time and tasted the most delicious coconut pancakes ever.
